Kohler Power Authors Greener Data: Actionable Insights from Industry Leaders Chapter on Increasing Sustainability in the Data Center Industry

Kohler Power is featured in a new book entitled Greener Data: Actionable Insights from Industry Leaders that addresses realistic ways to make the technology, telecom and data center industries more environmentally sustainable. Greener Data, which launched globally today (Earth Day), describes how Kohler, one of the data center industry’s leading global power partners, is paving the way for more efficient backup power solutions.

Greener Data is a multi-author, visionary book that features the voices, stories and perspectives of leading decision-makers in the data center and network infrastructure industry — individuals who are passionate about drastically reducing carbon emissions for a more sustainable Earth.

Kohler’s chapter is titled “Powering a Better Future: Kohler’s Evolutionary and Revolutionary Approaches.” It examines the industry from a supplier perspective of much-needed backup power. With record amounts of data being consumed worldwide, the needs for the services that data centers provide to enable business applications, online marketplaces and connected applications, as well as to allow people to stream television shows and connect through social media are higher than ever. With the rise in demand for data comes the increased need for reliable backup power sources to keep mission-critical applications operating in the event of a power failure.

“As a pioneer of the modern-day generator and a leader in the data center backup power industry, we have a responsibility to lead the way by providing more environmentally sustainable products for the data center industry,” says Charles Hunsucker, General Manager - Americas & Global Data Centers for Kohler. “We’re proud to be part of advancing the conversation around sustainability in the data center industry by authoring a chapter in Greener Data, as well as creating innovative solutions.”

Kohler’s chapter provides real-world examples of how data center operators are taking steps to be more sustainable overall, as well as how Kohler is using both evolutionary and revolutionary approaches to providing greener sources of backup power. They detail the company’s commitment to experimenting with alternative fuel sources as a future option to power large-scale backup generators. In the immediate term, Kohler’s evolutionary approach to sustainability has led to an industrial generator product that operates more efficiently and requires far less testing, resulting in a drop in diesel emissions of up to 80%.

As the company is focused on creating a better planet, Kohler is committed to Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions across its operations by 2035. Learn more about Kohler’s sustainability initiatives here. To learn more about Kohler’s data center solutions, visit kohlerpower.com/datacenters.
