Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for mission-critical generators

Environmental product declarations bring transparency to critical power infrastructure

An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is an independently verified document that quantifies the environmental impacts of a product throughout its lifecycle, from raw material extraction and manufacturing to operation and end-of-life. Rehlko was the first manufacturer to publish a PEP ecopassport® Environmental Product Declaration for a mission-critical generator, helping customers better understand the environmental footprint of their backup power systems and support low-carbon decision making.

Today, Rehlko continues expanding its EPD portfolio, providing customers with reliable lifecycle environmental data for critical power solutions across key global markets.

Key Takeaways

  • Rehlko issued the market's first PEP ecopassport® Environmental Product Declaration for a mission-critical generator.

  • The first EPD was published in June 2024 for the KD Series™ K175 generator manufactured at Rehlko's facility in France.

  • Rehlko has expanded its portfolio with an additional EPD for the K135 generator platform.

  • EPDs provide independently verified lifecycle environmental data to support sustainability and procurement strategies.

  • Additional Environmental Product Declarations are under development, including future coverage for North American products.

Rehlko's EPD Journey

Industry First: KD Series™ K175 Generator

In June 2024, Rehlko established a market first by publishing a PEP ecopassport® Environmental Product Declaration for the KD Series™ K175 generator.(*)

A PEP ecopassport® is a Type III environmental declaration compliant with ISO 14025, providing transparent information about environmental impacts, natural resource use, and contributions to human health impacts throughout the product lifecycle.

The declaration marked an important step in improving environmental transparency for mission-critical power systems and supporting customers' sustainability initiatives.

Expanding Transparency with the K135 Generator

Rehlko has since released an additional PEP ecopassport® for the K135 generator platform, further expanding environmental transparency across its product portfolio.(*)

The K135 declaration is particularly relevant for customers in construction and industrial applications, where environmental reporting requirements are becoming increasingly important.

The overall environmental profile is consistent with findings from the K175 assessment, while demonstrating product-specific lifecycle characteristics. Together, these declarations provide customers with greater visibility into the environmental impacts of generator systems across different power ranges and use cases.

*The two PEP Ecopassport were issued for backup generators produced at our Rehlko’s manufacturing facility in France, but there are plans in place to introduce similar EPD programs for generators made in the U.S.

Why EPDs matter

Environmental Product Declarations provide standardized and independently verified data that can help organizations:

  • Support corporate sustainability and ESG objectives

  • Improve carbon reporting and environmental disclosures

  • Evaluate lifecycle impacts during procurement

  • Support green building and infrastructure projects

  • Increase supply chain transparency

For data center operators, industrial facilities, construction projects, healthcare organizations, and other critical infrastructure stakeholders, EPDs provide a credible foundation for environmental decision making.

Sustainability in Action: Powering Impact™

Environmental Product Declarations are part of Rehlko's broader sustainability strategy.

Through Powering Impact™, Rehlko is building a more sustainable and energy-resilient future by combining performance, innovation, and responsibility.

Power Impact Intelligence platform

The Rehlko Power Impact Intelligence is a strategic platform that can give data center operators direct, decision ready insight into the carbon impact of their power systems. Unlike static reports or disconnected data sources, it can deliver clear insight to support more informed infrastructure choices, including those that may reduce carbon emissions.
